December 2, 2015 marks the celebration of 44 years of the UAE. Be part of the Official Ceremony at Zayed Sports City – Abu Dhabi on 2 December from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
This date is celebrated annually and represents a special day for all UAE residents. The day celebrates the federal unification of the seven emirates in 1971. Yet, it is also a period to reflect on past, present and future state of affairs.
Adopted in 1971, there were no verses to the UAE National Anthem but the words ‘Ishy Bilady’, but lyrics were written in 1986 by Dr. Aref Al Sheikh Abdullah Al Hassan, who is widely known throughout the country.
The National Day is celebrating ‘The Spirit of the Union’. UAE’s 44th National Day will be a celebration of honor, pride and patriotism. Emirati acknowledge the moment with a series of events and festivities, which are normally planned weeks in advance up to the day of 02 Dec – the day when the United Arab Emirates was formed in 1971.
For locals, there will be fun, family activities to unite everyone in spirit.
UAE is proud of its achievements and heritage. This is best seen from last year’s National Day celebrations that held two Guinness World Records accomplishments that involved the UAE national flag made up of the most “flowering plants” and the largest “bus mosaic.” Aside from the record-breaking attempts, the acts displayed their true heritage with pride.
At present, across the UAE, locals have begun to get in the National Day Fever for this year’s festivities (click here for Abu Dhabi celebrations); once again many patriotic events have been organized for everyone to participate.
The emirate-wide celebrations come alive this National Day with many exciting free-to-attend activities (from 20 Nov to 05 Dec) to include music ‘Arabic’ concerts by local performers, competitions, sailing regattas (like the Al Bawanish Dhow Race – Sailboats and National Day Traditional Dhow Race – 40ft), festivals (such as the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival) and display of fireworks shows.
As part of the 44th UAE National Day celebration, a Traditional Souq is brought to you by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority at the Nation Towers Galleria, which goes until Dec 05, from 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM, with selling of a fascinating collection of market goods. ‘Souq’ is Arabic for ‘marketplace’. It is the ideal place to go for local specialties.
A grand parade has also been arranged as is a host of fun activities on Abu Dhabi Corniche. So come join the National Day Parade and other variety of celebratory activities held across Abu Dhabi.
It is time to celebrate the 44th National Day in Abu Dhabi wearing patriotic clothing attire. Many Emirati will usually dress and show things in theme with the colors of the flag of the United Arab Emirates: white, red, green, black.
In honor of this anniversary, schools in the UAE celebrate National Day period by dressing up in the Cultural “thoub” and “kandoora” and perform the “youlah” and folkloric dances. Kids, like adults, are proud of their heritage! “The Spirit of the Union” comes to life for all young and old, men and women, alike.
