After Vittorio Brumotti’s Cycling Tour Adventure Across Italy, sponsored by the FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano that began in Livigno (north of Italy) and took him up to Agrigento (extremely south), he decided to travel on two wheels across the entire United Arab Emirates (UAE), from south to north.
“Ciao, salam aleykum,” says Vittorio Brumotti during the interview with Nico de Corato, owner and founder of DubaiBlog, realized before the start. “I’m very happy to be here in UAE, my second home, to replicate the adventure done also in Italy. I can’t wait to deeply explore all the hidden spots of the Arab Emirates,” in particular the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Louvre Museum. But each place he visited left him something: the skyline of Dubai, his beloved desert, Jebel Hafeet, and many others places.
But who is Vittorio Brumotti? Born in Finale Ligure (Italy) and now living in Dubai (UAE), Brumotti is a renowned figure from the successful Italian television program Striscia la Notizia, but, above all, a bike trial champion and a very talented stunt rider. His days are filled with bike events as well as bike riding activities on either a trial bike or Freestyle Road bike to promote this spectacular sport in the world. He is also the incredible holder of 10 Guinness World Records; in October 2012, Brumotti climbed Burj Khalifa (the tallest Dubai skyscraper in the world at 829.8 meters) on a bicycle in exactly two hours and 20 minutes, climbing 3700 steps.
Ahead of the inaugural UAE Tour, the result of a merger between the Abu Dhabi Tour and the Dubai Tour which will continue to be a UCI WorldTour race into 2019, Vittorio Brumotti embarked on his tour of UAE that started from Al Hudayriat Island (Abu Dhabi) on February 6th and led him from the West Coast to the East Coast. The trip ended after seven days, after passing across all the Emirates. With his touring bike, he explored some of the most iconic and representative places in the country. It was a ride that aimed to create and promote a naturalistic and cultural itinerary (to include sport, art, history, nature, cuisine and solidarity).
The entire experience has been broadcasted by Dubai Sports TV, on Brumotti’s social network official channels (Instagram @brumottistar) and DubaiBlog (@dubaiblog), so anyone was able to discover the 7 stages of his journey day after day. Prepare yourself to view more than 1,000 km in 7 days.
Vittorio Brumotti Cycling Tour was an adventure of a lifetime; a personal expedition and not a race through the seven emirates. The challenge has been sponsored by Eicma (the Milan Motorcycle Shows) and Banca Intesa San Paolo and it fulfilled his lifelong dream to cycle cross-country.
Cycling through UAE was possible thanks also to a gravel bike, an exclusive customized bicycle prepared just for this tour that consisted of a bike with ‘adventure-ready features’ like disc brakes, additional clearance for wider tires, and comfortable geometry that let it adapt to everything from rugged terrain to winter exploration. In addition to this main bike, in the support car, there was a second bike with the same geometry but a different setup, used for his tricks. Cause – let us not forget – he is a fantastic freestyle stunt biker.
As it turns out, Vittorio Brumotti is not done yet and now looks forward to his next cycling trip, as a cycler inspired by biking-tourism.
